Executive search consultant vs selection

The Executive Search Consultant is now widely accepted as playing an essential role as a professional advisor to the Board and senior management on human resource affairs. They are highly involved in both the recruitment and the retention of senior executives and directors. The professional service of Executive Recruiter Search is relatively new. It is becoming increasingly more sophisticated, more specialised and more international.

EXECUTIVE SEARCH
An executive search involves finding candidates via meetings and phone calls, without advertising and general publicity. It has proven to be the most effective way of filling those key top posts which typically have generous salaries.

On identifying the right candidate, the executive search company then has the crucial task of carrying out a thorough reference check. A top executive search firm would aim to take three references as a minimum to ensure that the chosen individual is really how they appear. The quality of an executive search firm can be measured by the quality of their reference checking.

EXECUTIVE SELECTION
Recruitment for middle management jobs, or management selection, needs different analysis. The large costs of an executive search can be less suitable than that of advertising. This is because there are often at least five or six candidates who can satisfy the requirements of the position.

We use our own executive search consultants to help our clients find those middle management positions that are most cost effectively recruited through a well written and positioned advertisement in a national newspaper such as the Financial Times. These positions generally appeal to people in their 30s and 40s, who are prepared to read the advertisements and to respond to them.

Management consultant fees are lower than for executive search and evidence shows that people do respond to advertisements. The combination of advertising and management selection is the fastest and most cost-effective way of finding the right candidates for those important middle management positions.
